Elizabeth Kelly No 488

This child was buried in the same coffin as her mother Elizabeth Coppack Kelly (See No 389). The fact was concealed at the time of internment and the Undertaker George Bowring was taken before the Stipendiary Magistrates (T.S. Raffles. Esquire) in connection with the case. On his making a statutory declaration of the facts as herein stated and paying the fees for the child's internment the charge against him was dismissed the declaration is appended hereto.

Can't read what the declaration says. I'll have to wait till the Library opens as its not been microfilmed.


Naughty man if he was trying to get away with paying the burial fee how many did get away with it??

George Bowring lived in Knight Street in the Parish of St. Luke's. I did some research into these Bowrings for a visitor from New Zealand about ten years ago (How time flies when your have fun)

Actually although nothing to do with Liverpool. When a Gt Gt Grandmother drowned in a river with her youngest son of 6 years the coroner gave his permission for both of them to be buried in the same coffin. Something which i believe was/is quite unusual. Perhaps because they were found in each other's arms?
