Symbols in the Electoral Rolls.

Post by dickiesam »

From time to time we have to refer to the Electoral Rolls of times past. Often we'll come across an entry with symbols such as 'R' and 'RW'.

These symbols indicate a resident's qualification to have a franchise/vote:
R: Residence qualification.
BP: Business premises qualification.
O: Occupation qualification.
HO: Through husband's qualification.
RW: Residence qualification (women).
OW: Occupation qualification (women).
