Baby for America Held Up Liverpool Evening Express 19th October 1944
The passport of "Little Boy Blue" the seven month old baby who was to have flown to America by order of President Roosevelt has been mislaid and his trip has had to be postponed.
The passport was specially issued by the British Passport Office.
The railway company searched the whole of the train in which the baby travelled on his way from London to a Scottish airport. Stationmasters at stations where the train stopped have been told to look out for it.
The passport is an ordinary blue one. It has the baby's photograph and full description. The only spaces left blank are those headed "profession" and "signature".
The nearest passport office to the airport is Glasgow, say the London Star, but a new passport could not be issued within less than 24 hours.
The baby is the son of a Liverpool girl and an American soldier who was killed in France. The couple were not married and the soldier's parents are going to adopt the baby.
He is dressed entirely in blue. That is why American soldiers have given him the "Little Boy Blue " title.
