American Revolution - The Scouse connection

Post by Katie »

Looking through the strays which I have inherited from our late Strays co ordinator Pam Smith I came across this interesting Stray.

Source Tacoma, Washington U.S.A - dated 31st January 1985

Morris, Robert born Liverpool 1734

"The 250th anniversary of Robert Morris who is credited with almost single handedly financing the Revoluntionary War. Morris was sent to Philadelphia as a boy to work at a wholesale firm. At 15 years he cornered the flour market. At 22 years he became a partner in the firm. In 1776 he was a signatory of the Declaration of Independence. His most important role was his personal credit. It was so good that he borrowed the $50,000 dollars that enabled George Washington to march"
