Sub Conditione

Post by Blue70 »

The term Sub conditione can sometimes be found in Catholic baptism registers. As I understand it, others may be able to add further information, it identifies the event as a conditional baptism due to potential issues over the validity of the baptism. The person could have been an adult convert from another faith, could have been a child previously baptised in another faith or it may not be known for certain whether the person had been baptised previously or not.

Also the word (possibly in Latin) Conditionaliter, as seen in this adult baptism.
