1939 National Registration - mini census

Interesting bit of news.. courtesy of Rootschat..
In 1939 the British Government carried out a National Registration. The was a register of all living persons in preparation for the issue of individual Identity Cards.
The Register is regarded by many as a 'mini-census' in that it may contain other information in addition to name, address, gender, occupation and dob. A recent decision has meant that this Register is now open to Freedom of Information requests in respect of people no longer living and it may go online as a searchable database. See here:
