We've had quite a few queries lately about prison sentences, coincidentally the database for the England and Wales Criminal Registers, 1791 - 1892 has now been uploaded to Ancestry and has a free index for you to search.

The main heading is Register of all Persons charged with Indictable Offences at the Assizes and Sessions held within the County during the year ...

and the column headings (not consistent) are
Name of Offender, Degree of Instruction (ie how well they were educated), Ages, At what Sessions Tried or Discharged without Trial, Offences, Sentences - Death/Transportation/Imprisonment/Whipping, Fine &c., Acquittals, Execution or Commutation of Capital Sentences.

Some Counties aren't as comprehensive as Lancashire, one for Warwickshire for example just giving headings of Name, When Tried, Crime, Sentenced and How Disposed Of.

If used in conjunction with the Old Newspapers site, this can be quite revealing.
