This is a new site to create the first central database of statutory burial and cremation registers for the UK and Republic of Ireland.

Although it's still in it's early days and coverage is pretty small and as yet mainly down south, it looks promising. As at this date there is data from seven cemeteries and crematoria, four being in Greater London, Alperton Cemetery in Brent, Trent Park Cemetery in Islington, Hampstead Cemetery in Camden and Rainham and Upminster Cemeteries plus South Essex Crematorium, all in Havering.

Other then London there are records from Arbroath, Kirriemuir and Newmonthill in Angus, Scotland and also records from Kent and Sussex Crematorium in Tunbridge Wells and some from Tunbridge Wells Borough Cemetery.

It should complement the National Burian Index (now online via www.findmypast.com) as it is only planning to cover records from 1837 onwards.

The data comes from local council records, but the drawback is that only some councils have data in computer readable form.

The good news is that in some cases there might be photographs or maps of graves attached to the entries.

Although an annual subscription package is planned, at the moment it's pay-per-view credits only, however the index looks good enough to match if you have a death date.
