Isle of Arran, Scotland

Post by BurscoughLad »

Have just visited the island and visited the Arran Heritage Museum.
They have genealogy records from the clearances in the 1820's and also copies of correspondence from emigrants from along the St Lawrence River.

Contact info is:

Arran Heritage Museum
Rosaburn
BRODICK
Isle of Arran
KA27 8DP

Tel 01770 302636
e mail info@arranmuseum.co.uk

Although the place looks small from the outside, I was "kicked out" at closing time having a good three hours there and hadn't seen everything.
A family ticket was £7.00!! Brilliant value

Scottish Ancestors

Post by Lee Layland »

This is a PAID FOR service.

Received from the website owner.

Having browsed your website recently, I thought your organisation may be interested in considering adding as a resource/adding a link to my website: http://www.memento-mori.co.uk.

The website consists of searchable online indices containing names, ages, dates of death and places of burial in many locations in Central Scotland. (Women are listed by both maiden and married surnames.)

The indices include both pre-1855 and post-1855 gravestones many of which have been previously transcribed in the Pre-1855 Monumental Inscriptions series of publications by Mitchell.

Each separate index contains a selection of photographs (at the end of each document).

Post by MaryA »

They have now over 700 Post Office Directories online, searchable by name - first three letters and place. A lovely quick search engine too.

I've used this website in the past:-

It's great when you find information like this "Rev. Landsborough's Lists" I found my Harveys on these old parish census records:-

The National Library of Scotland has a dedicated platform on the Internet Archive.
Freely available on this platform are Military Lists for the British Army, RAF & Royal Navy, Gazetteers, PO Directories and much more. The records don't just cover Scotland.
