Shipwrights

Thanks to Tom Ball on the Facebook Group
Shipwrights could have easily moved around the Naval bases in the UK for work, or even other Naval bases around the world. I have found several people I was looking for in Portsmouth that have travelled from all over England and Scotland to work in Portsmouth Naval Base. Look for his name here https://portsmouthdockyard.org.uk/employment-records
Other Dockyards may have similar records. Also search here for his name as if he was appointed as a shipwright in a Naval base it was probably announced as again I found a few appointments mentioned here.https://www.thegazette.co.uk/
On the Portsmouth Dockyard Historical Trust site there are several Chronological timelines so you would have a good idea of what ship/ships he would have worked on. So you could then check the other major Naval shipyards of the time to see if they hold similar records. I also noticed that the Shipwrights I was looking for nearly all had a will as they seemed to do well and were relatively well paid (just my assumption) so look for his will if he had one.
Have a read of this as well.
