Thanks to BarrattFamily for some insider hints
I only buy transcripts of BDM certificates in Australia. There are a couple of people to use (all around the same price) but I have found a man named Laurie Turtle to be the fastest. He sometimes emails them to me within a day or two. It's roughly half the price and has the same information that the full certificate has. The death transcripts are really worthwhile because they list every child of the deceased and their ages at the time of the parents death. Also how many living & deceased children.
Below is an example of one of my Great Grandmothers death transcript to show you what is recorded.

some good links for Victoria Australia
Following advice to ask for help on Austrailia on Roots web.
I was given these links very good
Sorry if these have been posted before.

You may like to search the National Library's digitised newspapers as there are sometimes mentions of divorces. There are also personal notices such as Death Notices which can give clues, as well as news items. You can filter the search to look only at newspapers in Victoria and by dates.
http://newspapers.nla.gov.au/
Could either husband have served in WW1? There are very good records at the National Archives. If a person did enlist there is a record of who they named as Next of Kin and addresses for them. Search as a Guest and put in the surname and first name of the person.
http://www.naa.gov.au/collection/record ... index.aspx
You can also search for Wills granted probate in Victoria. Many wills before 1925 have been digitsed so you might find at least the first chap's will.
http://www.prov.vic.gov.au/access/probate.asp
Also a very good one I had before.

Re: Some Australian Links
Try this site for Australian Records - http://www.coraweb.com.au
This gateway site has over 2000 links to most genealogical categories and has many useful links to records in England, Scotland, Ireland, India, Sri Lanka, Wales and New Zealand. Most of the links mentioned previously are probably listed on the website.
Hope this helps.

Interesting link for Australian research
http://wiki.prov.vic.gov.au/index.php/B ... m_Register
Link was forwarded to me via Aus-Vic-Goldfields board on Roots.
The Registers give some good information - names, occupation, residence, birth place, age, parents’ names, religion, marriage status, religion, date of arrival in Victoria, dates in & out of Asylum, remarks.
Few folk on this born Liverpool!!

Re: National Library of Australia
The National Archives of Australia (NAA) has started a project for digitising World War I repatriation records for access by the public. 2,300 records have already been digitised and are available online by searching under the person’s name or service number. Read about this project here:

Thanks to a lady from Australia who came to the Help Desk today, try these two links for Australia.
http://www.ryersonindex.org/ to death notices and obituaries in Australian newspapers
http://www.cityofsydney.nsw.gov.au/lear ... -directory The firm of John Sands Ltd (Printers and Stationers) published their directory each year from 1858–59 to 1932–33 (except for 1872, 1874, 1878 and 1881). The household and business information it contains has become a fundamental source for research into Sydney history, especially family history.
The Sands Directories: Sydney and New South Wales, Australia, 1858-1933 are also available on Ancestry.

Re: AUSTRALIA, NEW ZEALAND & TASMANIA
Thanks to another of our members some more helpful sites for Australia.
Most important -
http://www.australia.gov.au/
Click "Family and community"
"Births deaths marriages register"
click on relevant state(abbreviated) on the right hand side - My experience is only with Victoria
"Search family history"
"Start search"
Fill in index
Click on one of the names shown and you will get further information
The information shown below is for free!!
Father's name/spouse's family name/mothers maiden name, place of birth
All of this info is dependant on the informant supplying it - and correctly!
There is extra info you get by paying
Certificates cost 24 australian$ (about £16) but they are emailed to you by return!!
Some of the most important pieces of info on the paid certificates are
where they were born,
how long they have been in Australia (you can then check the names on the passage records to see if they are your relatives)
and their children are listed on the death certificate.
A very good site for Victoria is http://www.kilmorehistory.info/
Ancestry is also excellent for Australia but you do have to have world wide membership.
