I find the Isle Of Man Family History Society site very useful particularly the information provided by the late Brian Lawson. Brian's research includes some of my ancestors and I've been able to go back to 1645 on one particular line thanks to Brian's research:-

According to one of my Manx contacts, "it is anticipated that parish records will be available on–line next year but the date has not yet been determined" it will be on a pay-to-view basis apparently and should be easier than current methods of access. At the moment apart from the LDS centres the Manx Museum is the only source of original images. For those who can't visit the Museum there is a limited copying service but staff are reluctant to provide researchers with more than one or two records by post or e-mail because of shortage of staff and they usually recommend using genealogists instead. The Manx Civil Registry will not provide any original images only transcripts in certificate format. Here is some information about the iMuseum a precursor to the parish records going online:-

You can purchase BMD certificates from the registry office in Douglas, Isle Of Man. They are cheaper if you know the index details so have a look at this site below. It also tells you where to send your cheque etc:-

Here are some forms that can be used in the process:-

Registration started much later in the Isle Of Man so you may want to access the parish records for earlier events. You can purchase copies of parish records from the registry office or purchase JPEGs of the original records from Microfilm from the Manx Museum. The Manx Museum will only provide a small number of records but they are a better option than the registry office when it comes to parish records. They don't provide a research service so you would have to provide exact details of the records you want. You can contact the Manx Museum here:-

The Manx Museum provided me with two baptisms recently from the 1870s. I sent them a cheque for £5 and they e-mailed me the JPEG images from the original parish registers.

How to find and get a Will from the Isle of Man.
If you first go to this site

scroll down to Wills and Transcriptions. There you will find if a person left a Will.
If there is a name with a blue link it will already have been transcribed on line.
If not you can order through the LDS site and get the film the ref.. no. is given.
If like me you can't get to a center.

I've been having a great time searching through old Manx newspapers on imuseum. One of my ancestors remarried in their seventies and the fun-filled celebrations surrounding the occasion made the papers in both the Isle of Man and Liverpool. An obituary for one of my ancestors mentioned that he was a member of a Manx society of Foresters and that the members had turned out in their regalia for his funeral. No skeletons for a change!

Another great find. I have a very old book with a dedication of gratitude from a lady who was saved from drowning at Port Erin, Isle of Man in 1874. The story of the rescue is in one of the Manx newspapers on imuseum.

There are Isle of Man Roman Catholic record images on Family Search they are for St Mary's (St Mary of the Isle) RC church Douglas (formerly called St Francis Xavier, an earlier church was called St Bridget's). They are not identified as RC records and have been put in a batch with the local C of E church “Douglas, St Georges”.

They include records for Irish-born people living on the Island and likely include people with links to England particularly the Liverpool area which has close links to the island.
