Thank you Bert So Nan was in a mother and baby home, would that be cause she wasnt living at home? or what other reason could there be? She would have been 20 at the time. Says she was a domestic servant, so presume that meant she had a job, maybe? Its fascinating trying to put all these things toge...

Just got a birth cert of nans first child, says residence of informant as St Hilda, Penny Lane, Wavertree. Baby born in Liverpool maternity hospital in 1919

Would anyone know what a kitchen maid (domestic) means. Some is obvious, but could it be a large house as in upstairs downstairs? So nan would lived either in the basement or the attic?

is your mother's place of birth given as the same place as your grandmother's address when she registered the birth? No mums place of birth was 144a brownlow hill, which I found out was the liverpool workhouse, so sent for mums original birth certificate, as she had a name change, and it says nans ...

recieved mums original birth certificate today, says nan lived at 4 starfield street liverpool, so not in the workhouse. Says nan was a kitchen maid (domestic)

thank you blue70 as far as we are aware the child was always with the mother, thats what so puzzling. i have photos which show child amongst siblings.
