Re: Facebook Page - Ormskirk & the Great War

Thanks Mary.

Can you let me in to the LSWLFHS page?

I will have a look at my notes for the Boys' School and let you know which ones I have information on. Of course, if anyone recognises a name on there I will be happy to share any information I have.

Re: William Sutton Arrowsmith - WW1

Thanks Katie,

What is the date for the obituary? Is it accessible at the Record Office at the moment? It's a long time since I last visited.

Creegan on 1911 Census?

I am researching another Liverpool WW1 soldier - Ernest Creegan. My problem is that I can't find him or his family on the 1911 Census, despite trying various spellings of the surname. Here is what I have so far: Ernest Creegan, b.1891 in Liverpool (birth registered Q3. 1891) 1901 Census: the family ...

Re: Evan Jones - WW1

Hi Mary, I have looked on Ancestry and found only his Medal Index Card - no service papers, unfortunately. He is mentioned in the Battalion History and other documents as having been awarded the Military Medal and the London Gazette gives the date of the promulgation of the award as October, 1916. I...

Evan Jones - WW1

Another difficult-to-research name :-( Evan Jones was a Territorial soldier, enlisting into the 9th King's Liverpool Regt in April, 1913, so he was probably born before 1897. He reached the rank of Sergeant and was awarded the Military Medal around October, 1916. I know that he survived the war. As ...

Re: War memorial dedicated to the 4th West Lancs R.F.A

Looking at Google Earth, the building appears to be the one on the corner of Botanic Road and Edge Lane. That looks similar to other drill halls I have seen.

Re: Grandad's uniform can anyone help??

Just a thought regarding his medals - if he had served in the Royal Navy or Merchant Navy in WW2 I would expect him to have been awarded the Atlantic Star amongst others. In the absence of that (and I think you need other opinions on the medal ribbons he is wearing in the photo) I would lean towards...

Thanks DS.

He was definitely 9th King's Liverpools, but there is a possibility he was on temporary attachment to the Manchester Regiment, but that isn't confirmed.

George Horton Parker, of Everton

Can anyone help me with a mystery? I am currently researching George Horton Parker, who was killed in the Great War whilst serving with the 9th Battalion of the King's Liverpool Regiment. The mystery surrounds the date of his death, which is recorded on both the Commonwealth War Graves Commission we...

Hi Kathy,

Bernard Madden was no relation of Christopher, but they both served in the 9th King's.

I would be interested in any details of the entries for Bernard.

Thanks,
