Actually, I emailed FMP again a couple of weeks ago and had a very courteous and helpful reply from a different member of the team. The matter was rectified within a couple of hours, and I also received an apology.

Re: Getting a living persons record closed. 1939 register
That's interesting. My mum's record was closed and then a relative alerted me to the fact that it had been opened in error last year. I had several exchanges of emails with FMP requesting that they close the record, but I received a poor response each time. After a long wait, the entry was blacked o...

Re: Hays or Hayes surnames
Don't forget 'Heyes', either. My family spelt it with an 'e', but I've got records with Hayes and Hays as well.
I also have another branch of the family where the surname is spelt differently between siblings, intentionally.

Go Mary. In the past I've had people with no blood ties and often no connection at all request and publish information on my family, including living relatives. Nowadays, if I get a message from a stranger through Ancestry asking to view my tree, I don't allow it... simple as. Real cousins mak...

That's true. It has saved me a fortune and led me to find a few stragglers that in all honesty I would probably not have found otherwise.

Too late to worry about leading some of us astray!
I, too, find the 'J' quarter thing quite confusing when doing the new index search, and have to double-check to make sure I've got it right.

Re: Shock and amazement!
They are only two very small words, but they make a world of difference. 'Thank you'. I spent many hours assisting someone recently, using my own resources that I have built up with time and money - none of the info could be found online. I can see that the new and corrective data has been applied t...

It was a good programme. I managed to watch it on 'catch up' and enjoyed the bits about the court housing and life working around the docks.

I haven't either, Blue. I haven't read the whole journal properly, but couldn't see a problem when glancing through.

Re: Does anyone know Joe Hewitt?
Thanks.
I asked an older member of the family today, and 'Dorothea' didn't ring any bells, but then... who knows.
I think I skimmed over the 'motor lorry driver' in 1939. Will go back and have a look...

No, he isn't, Mary.
There are several Joe Hewitts listed as chauffeurs in 1939, and none of them up north.
I don't know, Blue.
I shall ask.

Does anyone know Joe Hewitt?
I don't have many old photographs in my collection, sadly, but Joe Hewitt is in an album as a friend of the family. A chauffeur with links to Prescot (Cables?). Anyone recognise this precious old photo as one of theirs? http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v685/BayHorse/Miscellanous2/Joe%20Hewitt_zpsm4...

Re: Distance between birth & baptism
'Careful house to house visitation'. It sounds like something from Chitty Chitty Bang Bang. "Are there any... children ... around here?" It was the late baptism of one of my grandmother's first cousins that got me wondering. They had ten other children, all baptised soon after birth, ...

Re: Travel Liverpool to Chester
There are some beautiful old houses overlooking the Mersey on the Wirral side if you look out for them, full of maritime history. Thanks for that ferry info - I don't believe I've seen it before. Hubby's great grandfather was a well-known figure locally, but he came from Salford as a young man. I be...
