Re: Searching for a burial location
Hi Blue, that's helpful. Thanks. I wonder what sort of timeframe before they get to complete the Anfield records?

Searching for a burial location
I am trying to locate a burial location for my 2x great grandfather. His name was Levy Jacobs (b.1826) who died 5th November 1874, at Greenwood Street, Everton. I have searched many places but cannot find any record of his burial. He was born Jewish but married out of the faith, so I expect he was n...

Sefton House
Would anyone know the location of Sefton House? In the 1891 Census the Head was Dashper Edward Glynn, a ship owner, his family and servants, and the address on the census is 48 Ullet Road. The address following this in the census is Croxteth Gate. When I look on Google Maps the street number I enter...

Jewish community early 19th Century
Does anyone have any information about the Jewish community that were prevalent in the Brownlow Hill/ Mt Pleasant area from about 1830 to 1880. This is long before the large waves of migrants came over from Eastern Europe in the 1800's. I sent an email to the Princes rd Synagogue but got no reply, s...

Re: Hygiea Street
Really interesting posts. Thanks very much. Greenwood St is another one that I was interested in, as our family were located there in the 1871 census (after being at 21 Tue Brook), so interesting to hear how close it was to Hygiea St. Greenwood St no longer exists so have no idea what sort of housin...

Re: Hygiea Street
Dear Mary, Jan & Dickie Thank you for checking this out for me. I enjoyed Dickie's comments about the name Hygiea. Wishful thinking indeed. And yes, I agree, from what I have learned, most people who worked for themselves, generally operated from their homes, so it could have been a home address rat...

Hygiea Street
In my previous post, Jan44 pointed out that Levi Jacobs lived at Hygiea Street - from the 1860 Liverpool Directory. This is another street that interests me. The only photo I have seen of this street is of the entrance to a court, and it looked very poor and depressing. I see this street runs into W...

Re: Tuebrook Road
Hi All I had a look at all the suggestions you offered. I do see in the 1851 Streets Index there is a Tue Brook Terrace and wonder if this is the same as the Tue Brook I am looking for. However I don't know how to use the references given on that page (found on your website) . (I am sure at one stag...

Re: Tuebrook Road
Tina, my 2x great grandfather was Levi Jacobs and family listed at Tue Brook (shedule no 21.). He was a cigar maker. It could well have been a shop address. I don't know Liverpool very well - haven't been there, except from viewing maps. (I am in Australia) I did wonder whether 'Tue Brook' could hav...

Re: Tuebrook Road
Sorry for the delay... This is the source citation as copied from the reference in Ancestry.com Source Citation: Class: RG 9; Piece: 2735; Folio: 5; Page: 5; GSU roll: 543021. The street previous to Tue Brook is listed as "St name unknown" (with 5 families listed here) The street before that is call...

Tuebrook Road
In the 1861 Census my great great grandfather's address was Tue Brook, West Derby. There were approx 45 properties listed as Tuebrook West Derby in this census. I can find no evidence that 'Tue Brook' was a street name, though I know there is a district of this name. I am trying to identify where ex...

That looks a very good book Linda, and it also mentions Hugh Shimmin, so might give some information that Sheila is looking for too. This book looks excellent. Unfortunately the link provides only the Introduction, plus Contents pages. Its full details are: "Living in Liverpool: a collection of sou...

Fent Dealers
I am researching my 3xgrandmother who lived and worked in Roscoe Lane in 1840's. She was a fent dealer, and although I understand a fent dealer sold offcuts and remnants of fabric, I get the feeling she was self-employed as her husband was deceased. She is listed in Gore's and Slaters directories as...

Re: Court dwellings
Mary, Many thanks. Ken Pye's article was very good. I have seen lots of photos to date, but no real description of how the people survived in these places. Would buy his book but its out of print!

Court dwellings
Does anyone know of any first hand written records or memoirs of people who lived in the courts houses of the 1800's? Or any books about it? I am wanting to know how people lived in them, what they were like inside, etc. Kind regards
