Re: Jarrett Roberts b c 1880

Hi Lynn

I think the enumerator had originally put Jarrett in as a daughter (dau - not decd) aged 10 then crossed it out and initialled the alteration so it does look as if it says 10 months.

Sorry to hear about your mum and hope she continues to do well. I hope you have some success when you visit St. Andrew's and manage to find some more information. Let me know how you get on.

Re: GEORGE RANKIN OF LYDIATE AND HIS COOPERAGE, early 1900s

The first grave is of Hugh Allen Rankin who was my husband's cousin. He was killed in 1940 in an accident at Bury St. Edmonds near to his R.A.F. camp. He was buried at St. Andrew's, Maghull where he had been baptised and where his parents, Hugh Lucas Rankin and Mary McClay, had been married in 1913....

Re: GEORGE RANKIN OF LYDIATE AND HIS COOPERAGE, early 1900s

You mention that there is a grave for a John Lucas Rankin at Maghull. Is that at St. Andrew's Churchyard? This seems to be the family church for a lot of the Rankins (baptisms, marriages and burials) so I would think this could be the burial place of John Lucas Rankin. What are the other names menti...

Re: GEORGE RANKIN OF LYDIATE AND HIS COOPERAGE, early 1900s

Hi Chris Have just returned from holiday and picked up your post. Yes John Lucas was the son of John. He was an older brother of Hugh Lucas Rankin my husband's uncle. (See my post above) John Lucas was married at St Andrew's Church, Maghull on 10 August 1899 to Theodora Annie Lucas ( have a feeling ...

Re: Second-Mate Joseph Lonsdale Robinson

What a terrific find, Katie! This gentleman was the first husband of May who went on to marry my husband's uncle in 1920. She and Joseph were married at St. Peter's Church, Aintree in 1915 so barely had two years together. I knew she was a 'war' widow but presumed Joseph had been killed in the war a...

Re: Woodfine Holden?

1861 - the only James and Sarah Woodfine are boarding with Jeremiah Nolan in Widnes, reported to be born in Neston.
Looking at the 1861 census, I think the place they were born is NEWTON (le Willows). This would be more local for them to work in Widnes.

Regarding the name Nancy, we have quite a few Anns in our tree including my mother who were all referred to as Nancy or Nance.

On the 1891 census, the Angelbeck family lived at 5 Russell Street. Could this be the reason why they changed their name to Russell?

Re: Hannah PENDLEBURY 1796-1857

I've looked at both these signatures and think they could be the same - the first looks quite a childish hand and the second just an older hand. If you compare the capital 'P' of Pendlebury they look very similar, the upward stroke of the letter 'd' has the same hook at the top on both signatures an...

In 1871 Samuel was a leather warehouseman and in 1881 a leather dresser. As his father was a farmer, perhaps he was helping out before moving to Liverpool to continue his trade in the leather industry.

Just a thought. Could Jessica and George S be Ian's grandparents as he is buried with them. Their son George b.1895 could be Ian's father but didn't marry his mother.

Re: Help Please Woolcott baptism

I think maybe the child was thought to be very sick and was just baptised without a full baptism service. When she recovered, the priest carried out a full baptism.

Caerimoniae - sacred service
postea - afterwards
suppletae sunt - was completed or made good
a me - by me

Hello Nigel I have just seen your post relating to George and John Rankin, coopers. My husband's uncle was the youngest son of John Rankin. George (born abt 1846) and John (abt. 1844) were born in Co. Antrim, Ireland and were the sons of Robert Rankin and Ellen. Their brothers were James (b.abt 1855...

Just a thought. Could this be your Alice Walker? There is a birth in Lancs BMD registered in 1855 at Much Woolton. Ref: MW/5/65.

There are also births for other Walker children, James, Ann and Jane. Do these names ring any bells?
