Thank you for all this info. However the marriage to Margaret Kinsley is not the correct one,. I have the marriage cert and although it is for a Thomas Joseph Riley his father is William George Riley which is not correct.

Thomas Joseph Riley 11 was born in Dublin in 1879. I have his marriage cert in Nottinham. 1901 census has them living in Derby and 1911 census he is in the Bridewell (on a charge of being drunk and disorderly!) and the rest of the family are visiting friends, so I have no home address. Like his fath...

Yes the family do seem to have decamped to Dublin in the 1870's and I also wondered why there were only two children from the marriage of Patrick and Elizabeth. Ellen's date of marriage would have been roughly 1865/70 but I cannot trace it in English or Irish online records I have searched Dublin bu...

Yes Colette, Ellen married John Sweeney but I have not been able to trace their marriage. I cannot find the marriage in English BMD's and I have applied to Family Search for a microfiche of Irish marriage records but they seem to have lost it! He was born in Donegal and died 9th November 1918 and El...

I have reached a brick wall in researching my 3 times ggrandfather Patrick Riley the earliest record being the 1861 census when he and his family were living at 48 Johnson Street Liverpool. Although there are Patrick Rileys in the 1841 and 1851 census there is no certainty they are the person I am l...

I have just discovered on the 1911 census a Thomas Riley who was in Bridewell Prison, 10 Cheapside. I am not sure if I have the correct person althouhg the age is right (32) and the occupation of carter could be right but he was born in Dublin not Liverpool as the census has it. Also he was Thomas J...

I have now had the opportunity of applying to the GRO for the birth refereces I gave and they were all negative.
