An update.
I went to the National archives and found the ships log for the Guienne for the voyage in 1903 when James Filson died. It turned out he asphyxiated in his berth - his bunk mate survived - and was then buried at sea off Nantes.
thanks again for all the help offered over many years.

Re: Soldiers in Ireland 1920
Thanks I don't think there is anything else on the back of the photo apart from that mentioned at the top of this post . I am not at home until next week so don't have the original with me. I can look then. I am not sure if it is definitely 1918 - it may be later but am certain it is James Filson an...

Re: Soldiers in Ireland 1920
I am now trying to attack this laterally. Does anyone know which regiments served in Ireland in 1918-1922? - I could then perhaps ask at the relevant regiment museum. I found some more information about the ships in 1917 at NA but still have drawn a blank on the army service. Thanks as before for al...

Westminster Road Primary School
Hi I have a photo of Westminster Road Primary School 1932. Lilian Filson is 5th from right at back and her cousin James Filson is to her right. Does anyone recognise any other pupils or have any other photos of the school between 1933 and 1936? Thanks in advance Jane https://i.imgur.com/TnBW5MN.jpg

Re: Soldiers in Ireland 1920
Thanks to all. In answer to Mary his name was James Andrew Filson. Lanyard - he did work with horses in Ireland according to his daughter. As always this is a reminder to ask questions when people are still living - he never talked about his early life when I was a child. If anyone has any other ide...

Re: Soldiers in Ireland 1920
I have discovered from the Royal Irish Constabulary forum that he never served with them and that is not their uniform.

Re: Soldiers in Ireland 1920
Thanks - that is an amazing lead - I shall follow up. Here is another photo dated 1918 Rhine saying To Alf from Jim I think the Alf was Alf Radcliffe my grandmother's brother so Jims later brother in law. But I do not know where the Rhine comes in! Sadly there are no surviving medal cards for my Jam...

Soldiers in Ireland 1920
My grandfather James Filson (1900 -1987) is shown in a photo in uniform perhaps in Ireland. Our family thinks he was working there with horses and he had a bullet wound in his arm. I have a copy of the photo and wonder if any members could point me in the correct direction of discovering what he migh...

James Andrew Filson 1900 - 1987
James Andrew Filson is listed as a crew member on the New York ship in 1917 and then in 1924 on the Almanzora coming from Bahia to Southampton. I think he was in Ireland sometime between 1919 and 1923 and I have a photo of him in what looks like an army uniform. He told his daughter that he had work...

Re: Frank Radcliffe 14506 Kings Liverpool Regiment
thanks Daggers - i knew the name Edward Carter Preston as I had found him when researching a plaque for my paternal great uncle Frederick Charles Purton, but I had not realised he came from Liverpool or that he had designed the sculptures in the Anglican cathedral.

Re: Frank Radcliffe 14506 Kings Liverpool Regiment
Long story but when I discovered such things existed last year on Antiques Road Show I enquired in the family and found a distant cousin in Australia who found it in her father's effects after he died. He was a nephew ( as was my mother of Frank. The memorial plaque is still in Australia. I have als...
